On September 29, 2025, the FDA officially recognized NMN as a lawful dietary supplement ingredient.

The agency acknowledged that NMN had already been marketed as a dietary supplement as early as 2017, and withdrew its previous interpretation that NMN should be excluded solely because of its investigational drug history.

This decision marked the conclusion of nearly three years of legal challenges, citizen petitions, and sustained advocacy from industry organizations and consumers.

Following the FDA's decision, Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Natural Products Association (NPA), stated:

"Today's decision confirms that NMN is a lawful dietary supplement ingredient, and we urge online marketplaces across the United States to immediately restore NMN products to the market."

He further added:

"We will continue working with Congress, the courts, and the Administration until the misuse of the drug exclusion provision is fully addressed."
